Fight Diabetes

Could you be at risk of diabetes?

One way to find out if you are at risk is to take the following true or false test. If you answer TRUE to any question, please include the point total to the right, and then add up your final score.

  • I am a woman who has had a baby weighing more
    than 9 pounds at birth. True (1) ____
  • I have a sister or brother with diabetes. True (1) ____
  • I have a parent with diabetes. True (1) ____
  • My weight is equal to or above that listed on the
    chart below. True (5) ____
  • I am under 65 years of age and I get little or no
    exercise. True (5) ____
  • I am between 45 and 64 years of age. True (5) ____
  • I am 65 years old or older. True (9) ____


If you scored 10 or more points, you are at a high risk for having diabetes and you should consult your health care physician. If you scored 3 - 9 points, you are probably at low risk for diabetes now, but you should continue to watch your weight, keep active and try to eat low fat meals that are high in fruits and vegetables, and whole grains.
